Why do I need Insurance?

For decades, the AFM has provided excellent, reasonably priced insurance options to its members through HUB International, an Ontario-based company.

The best-known coverage is the inexpensive instrument insurance policy available to members of the AFM. Recently our provincial association has helped expand insurance options to include a full range of insurance for musicians.


Most homeowner's and renter's insurance does not protect you from loss or damage to equipment or instruments that you use professionally. Even if you are covered, it is usually only at home. This policy protects your instruments and music-related equipment from vandalism, breakage, water, fire, lightning, and theft up to full replacement value. And coverage goes with you everywhere and is good world-wide.


As a rider to an instrument insurance policy, AFM members can have liability coverage and be protected if someone is injured during a performance, or if they are sued for unprofessional conduct. This covers losses up to $1,000,000 for each occurrence and up to $2,000,000 of aggregate coverage for lawsuits arising out of bodily injury and/or damage to property of others occurring on or off premises during your work. Check with HUB for reasonable rates on this option.


Features of this policy include Injury Income Replacement, Partial Disability, Accident Hospitalization, Ambulance Benefit, Rehabilitation Benefits, Accidental Death & Dismemberment. No Medical Application is required.


No medical questionnaire is required. Cash payment will be provided following a diagnosis of cancer, heart attack, stroke, coronary bypass or aortic surgery.


Health policies include Extended Health Care, Prescription Drugs, Dental Care, Vision Care, Private/Semi-Private Hospital Room. Three levels of coverage for individuals and families are offered.


This is a full travel policy that covers Emergency Medical, Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption, Baggage Loss or Delay, Flight Accident, Travel Accident and Bounce Back Benefit.
